In addition to the other things we do as missionaries and as a member of the Mission Presidency we also work through the Mabuhay Foundation to help people who have physical problems. This young man was attending Church in San Jaun, Batangas the day we went there. He cannot stand - he must get around on all fours. The good news is Mabuhay has accepted him and with a small donation they have begin the long process of helping him live as normal a life as is possible. It would be hard to describe everything we have seen here, and you wouldn't believe all that we have seen. There are times when I wonder if the Philippines is collection point for those with physical problems, but I assume every third world country has similar problems.
We feel fortunate to be able to help even a few. Not every application we have sent in has been accepted, nor does everyone who has need want to take advantage of Mabuhay. I have selective as to who I have sent this too - I know these pictures are hard to look at, but consider the life of this young man, and how wonderful it will be when he can stand for the first time in his life.
